The angry Homabay residents have strongly criticized the county government of Homabay County for what they term as allocation of funds to misplaced priorities.

This came after the  county government announce that it has set aside Sh44.9M for developing the fishing sub sector. Out of this amount, 19.9m is to be used on improving fish pond farming while Sh13m will be spent on completing the already ongoing fishponds.

However, the residents who spoke to Nyanza online said they don't need fish ponds urging the county government to instead focus on empowerment of the fishermen.

Why on earth should the governor concentrate on establishment of new fish ponds if we already have a lake here full of fish.”, said Odipo,

What we need is to reclaim our Lake and empower Fishermen and consequently resuscitate CAPITAL FISH along side the introduction of Cold Storages along the beaches.” said Mackiche Mackiche
