STATEMENT BY HON.BABU OWINO ON MISTREATMENT OF JKIA WORKERS
Thursday,30 April 2020
TREAT WORKERS FAIRLY!
My attention is drawn to the unfortunate summary dismissal of several workers of the Kenya Airports Authority based at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airpory which is in my constituency, Embakasi East.
To add insult to injury, the dismissal was so poorly communicated that individuals reporting for night duty found themselves stranded and forced to spend the night on the streets as though they are stray dogs.
My heart breaks when I see hard working, honest Kenyans treated like this. As though they are nothing! I continue to call upon employers, both private sector and public sector, to be humane and to do the right thing. You would rather dig into your profits and retain people than smear your good name as an employer forever.
Moreso for public sector employers, it is not your mother’s money that you are spending. Stop acting as though it is hurting you and keep in mind the thousands of mouths who are depending on these workers. I plead with H. E the President to set aside some of the 40 billion allocated by Treasury to cushion these workers so that our people don’t go hungry!
